Muscat: Ever need groceries but never seem to have time to go and buy them? This Oman-based online hypermarket solves just that.
‘Markeetex’ is a website created by an Omani team which allows users to shop for their groceries and other household goods online, and receive their items at their doorstep in as short as 90 minutes, or at a time allocated by the customer. Customers can shop for all food items such as meats, bread, milk, flour, fruits and vegetables.
Sarah Al Shidhani, the head of product development at Markeetex said, “More and more people have busy lives, therefore, saving time to go grocery shopping can be hard. This service allows users to buy whatever is listed in our website, even while they are at work, and the items will arrive in their doorstep before they are home.”
Markeetex was established a month ago but has been gaining popularity, thanks to the idea behind which is to simplify the daily activities of residents in Muscat. “Initially we faced challenges as customers are not used to such ideas, but now the response we have been getting since then is positive. We have a growing number of customers with a growth rate of 75 per cent in orders and 45 per cent retention of customers,” Sarah added.
So here is how it works: Users can access the website via www.markeetex.com, then choose an item from the different categories provided such as fruit and vegetables, dairy and bakery, meats, beverages, household goods, canned, spices, baby goods, pet care, and body hygiene. The website provides information on the item such as price, weight, and a photo.
Currently, Markeetex only accepts cash payments when the items are delivered. However, Al Shidhani has confirmed that they are intending to add a credit/debit card payment at delivery point. The cost of delivery is free for all items over OMR5, while for items are less than that then there will be a delivery charge of OMR2. “The delivery cost is free because our aim is to fulfill family needs and to serve our customers, more than it is to make a profit,” Al Shidhani added.
As a bonus, if a customer wants a product that is not listed on the website, then the customer can just add a note in the order page and request the specific goods, which can also be delivered. “We update our list continuously depending on customer demand and request,” said Al Shidhani.
The future goals of the company include creating an application which will provide easier access for customers and, expand their service to more governorates in the Sultanate.
The management consist of six Omanis with degrees in Marketing, Product Development, Accounting, Business, and Sales.
